I just purchased this from Walgreens an hour ago. I read the reviews beforehand, so I was skeptical to say the least. To my surprise, IT WORKS. I even tried it on my bf’s legs. Since I worked at a spa, I remember my instructor told me to always go against the normal growth of your hair.
So, since my hair grows downward, I rubbed UP and AROUND firmly, but gently. I did not go back and forth which would irritate the skin, I picked it up and repeated the process of placing it AGAINST the direction of your hairgrowth, moving the applicator UP and AROUND. I also held the applicated HORIZONTALLY.
My bf served as a witness and he even admitted that a whole patch of hair on his leg was effectively removed, he even counted the hairs that fell on the sheets. So for those of you that failed to remove any hair, try this technique instead.
To prevent any pain or swelling, I applied Avalon Organics’s Lavender Hand and Body Lotion…so soothing because it contains essential oils which are antiseptic and healing, while the lavender calms your senses. Hope this helps!

UGH! I bought this thing at Wal-Mart on Friday and I wish I didn’t! It’s like just a piece of sandpaper and didn’t work. Also, it hurts. And it didn’t remove my leg hair. My friend Michelle tried it on her lip and it left a rugburn-type burn. OMG!
Did it work for anybody? Maybe I was rubbing too hard. Maybe it’s just a scam. There’s a funny review of this on RockstarMamaOnline.com that I wish I read before wasting $12. Guess I’ll go back to the razor.

I have been using this for several months, and found it works pretty well on my legs. Although I’m a redhead (dark red), I have fairly course hair on my arms, and it does wonders for that. Bikini area? Not so well. Face? Have not tried it out on lip or chin.
I did not bleed or have a rash of any kind after using it, but the first few times did make my skin kind of tingle a bit. A friend of mine did get some irritation, but when she found out she wasn’t doing it according to the directions (she didn’t clear off moisturizer AND was rubbing too hard AND was going side to side instead of circles), she perfected her technique and is pleased with it.

Made my legs bleed! Do NOT use. I use Beauty Maid’s Velvet Touch now and it works fine.

Both my daughter and I tried it. I used it on my face and I have little tiny scabs every where and my face burns. I can not even put lotion on it and it feels and looks like alligator skin. My daughter used on her legs and she has a rash up and down her legs and she says they burn. She too tried to put aquaphor on the bumps and it burned. I called smooth away customer service to tell them and the guy said well it doesn’t work on everybody. I told him why not post that on their site, and he said it is up to the person to know their skin. I am not sure about you, but I never thought to test my skin by rubbing australian crystals around in circles all over. He did not even offer to give my money back. Please beware as I am sure my face has permanent scarring, in which I will look to sue them.

I like it. I don’t use it on thicker leg hair. I cut the big pads down to use on my lip. IF you use just the right amt of pressure and do it like they say, it works! No beauty is pain free! Use a moisturizer after! But like I said, if you use it right, its pretty good for the upper lip. I wouldn’t use the big pads on my legs it takes too long. This is less painful than waxing! : )

I just bought Smooth Away today and used it on my arms. I agree with others, it took a while to get all the hair off but it left them super smooth, kinda like using Nair but without the burn. The pads are very smooth and felt soft on the skin. People have to keep in mind, everyone is different. If you are trying to use it on thick hair, especially if the arms have never been shaved, then of course it’s not going to work very well. Your hair has to be barely growing back for it to work right. Plus if you use it the wrong way, that’s when it causes the skin irritation. Either that or you just have sensitive skin. I would recommend it, and do plan on continuing to use it.
